My father has melanoma (skin cancer) and has recently been told it is stage IV and terminal. This blog is a record of his progress for family and friends.

Goodbye Dad
Mum, my brother and i were all sitting with Dad tonight when he quietly took his last breath and left us forever. He was calm and peaceful in life and he was in his death. He did not seem to suffer, but simply slipped away from us and out of reach. I saw a tiny flash of Dad yesterday when he seemed to respond to me speaking about his childhood dog, but i saw none today. It is better for him that his illness is over. If he was in any distress or any pain that we could not recognise then he is not now. I wish i could have done more; I would have given anything to save him, but although i loved him dearly i could not make him stay.

Hi Alison, Liv & David
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to read the last posting that you made. I feel for you all - your father was a great man and I feel privileged to be able to call him a relative and to have spent time with him in Australia as well as also seeing him in his own house at Igtham.
At a time like this words do not really seem appropriate. Nothing more than I can say other than I feel your loss and I am sure I speak for all the Tanswells in Sydney Australia. We will remember you all at this time and wish we could do more to support you. As I said ealier your dad was a great man, very smart and he achieved a great deal throughout his life.
I know I will remember him always as will all the family here. We will remeber the good times and am sure that is how he would want us to remember him. I know it will be difficult at this time for you all. You have our love and support.
Remembering you all.
Peter Tanswell
